Team North are your Dreamhack Masters - Stockholm 2018 champions!

In a truly epic battle, Team North have come away with the 2-1 win over Astralis to wrap up a tournament that had the highlight reels working overtime.

Dust 2 was Astralis' map pick and unfortunately for them, North got off to an almost perfect start with an absolutely dominating performance. It wasn't until the 13th round that Astralis finally won their first round of the grand final bringing it it 12-1. Unfortunately for Astralis this only reignited the fire for north and they went on to win 16-1.

Map 2 (Norths Pick) was Train. In a complete turn of events, it was Astralis who put on the dominating display.

It looked like it was anyones game to start with, with the scores getting locked at 3-3 at the start. But from then on Astralis ran away with the match and continued the theme of winning the other teams map pick, coming away with a 16-6 win.

Map 3 was Overpass. It was crunch time and both teams were well aware of exactly what was at stake.

Once again the match got off to a 3-3 start and things looked to be heading towards a repeat of Train as the No.1 Ranked team in the world Astralis stretched the gap out to 8-3. This was short lived though as North (Rank 10 global) clawed their way back to take it to 9-9.

From then on the intensity from both teams rose to a new level, but the absolute brilliance of Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen in particular shone through as it had throughout the whole tournament, and North managed to increase their lead to 12-9. Dispite the final rounds being incredibly close and Astralis being forced to buy anything they could round after round, North were just too good when it mattered and sealed the match 16-11.

The combined scoreboard shows how close overall the series was but in a very well deserved and hard fought win, North were just too good and are your Dreamhack Masters - Stockholm 2018 champions and walk away with a cool $100,000 in cash.

The top 4 for the tournament were:

  1. North - $100,000

  2. Astralis - $50,000

  3. NiP - $22,000

  4. Mousesports - $22,000

The teams now turn their attention towards the Faceit Major 2018 Main qualifiers in a few days to qualify for the main event at the end of the month as well as ESL One New York shortly after.
